….and save money, save space, gain peace of mind, sanity, and productivity!
We all have baggage that’s all packed and sitting at the front door, in your closet, in the garage, or in the attic. In boxes, in suitcases, in perfect vacuum-sealed bags, or just thrown in a big pile in the corner of your office or room! What have you last touched this crap!? Really, when?
See, I have a rule, if it’s not been touched in a year—off with the head! Drop it in a garbage bag and drive it or drag it over to Good Will. This baggage sucks energy, space, and potential from your daily life and you don’t even know it. It’s subconscious! I figured this out a long time ago in my travels, as I could travel for 6 months, in several countries and various climates with JUST A CARRY-ON suitcase. How do you like them apples?
I return home and see the millions of books on my shelves that are begging to be read or reread, the walk-in closet filled with clothing I’ve worn once, twice, or maybe often years ago, but no more, and finally, my huge executive desk filled with office crap and files that I never touch. Living on the road with just a laptop and small backpack that I call my office has taught me to “cut the crap”! More then a little is too much. And when you do cut the crap: ORGANIZE IT, LABEL IT, KNOW WHERE YOUR SHIT IS!
*****MOST PEOPLE HAVE TO REBUY THINGS BECAUSE THEY CAN’T FIND IT THROUGH ALL OF THEIR CRAP! OR VARIOUS PLACES THEY STORE THEIR UNORGANIZED CRAP!*******
When your physical space is open, free and uncluttered—-so is your mind, your creativity, and your productivity. You can slam me into a bland hotel room with a desk, a view, and a wifi connection and watch me get loads of efficient, useful work done. Sit in a pile of clutter, or even knowing there is clutter above your head in the attic, thwarts work efforts without your realizing. Clean that crap out. You’ll feel lighter, more focused, and happier!
Challenge: Go away for a few days with just a backpack and your laptop, find a peaceful location without your “stuff” and see how you mind feels. Is it more open? Is it more curious and free? Do you start creating?
Backpack Suggestion for Mobile Office: Dakine brand, 14″ laptop easy access sleeve, second compartment, three outer pockets, cooler pocket, 2 water-bottle side drop-pockets, chest strap (great for dispersing the weight across your body when standing in long lines, ie. airport security!), quality high-density material.
